none. All texts are in English.  +
During my first retreat in Samye Ling we had a strict rota system and we all had to be umze for all the practices that we would do only with pure Tibetan texts (no phonetics and no translation under the Tibetan text). Due to that i can read pretty well. Drubpon Rigdzin Wangyal told me that being able to read Tibetan properly is the requirement to do the retreat. He said that ideally for group practice one should not use phonetics (like during my first retreat in Samye-Ling).  +
Individual practices, prayers, and supplementary reading will be the only parts of this retreat in Tibetan, as I can and do read Tibetan, but my retreat guide is an American who has little Tibetan language facility, having been transmitted the Dharma in English.  +
Much of the retreat will be solitary practice. Extensive group instruction will be provided in Tibetan by the Retreat Master, Drupon Rinchen Dorje Rinpoche at the beginning of each section. Additional instruction will be offered (rarely) by His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche. Since this retreat is offered for those who are fluent in Tibetan, there will be no need for translation. If there are participants who do not know Tibetan, I may be asked to serve as a translator.  +

Instruction with translation group ritual using texts with transliteration  +
Group rituals and individual sadhanas are performed and memorized in Tibetan. A willingness to learn to read and write in Tibetan is required and I am looking forward to this aspect of study as I have a lifetime passion for linguistics, language learning and study. Of course I would love to be able to access nuances of text perhaps lost in translation, though I doubt that level of sophistication in language learning is possible after such a short period of study. Still, recognizing patterns in the Tibetan adds insight to my understanding, and I welcome this. Before I "retired," I purchased a set of Tibetan Language Learning materials--tapes, workbooks, texts, dictionaries, etc--and intended to attempt to learn as much as possible on my own or in on-line courses. But this didn't happen.  +
The Venerable Drupon will be speaking in Tibetan, but a translator will assist in transmitting the relevant information to the retreat participants. I hope to bring my Tibetan into a better shape than it has been before retreat.  +
The minimum requirement in this retreat for Tibetan language is ability to read the Dudjom Tersar Ngondro text. Group ritual and individual practice will be in Tibetan. Some teachings will be given in Tibetan. Although there will be an English translator, receiving the teachings in the original Tibetan will be a richer experience.  +
Khentrul Rinpoche teaches in Tibetan with translation by Paloma Lopez Landry. Our daily practices and prayers are all recited in Tibetan.  +
