|SolHermDescription=My hermitage is located in a wilderness area of the Cape Breton (Nova Scotia, Canada), on a private 100 acres wood land (own by my brother). The address is 733 Tarbotvale Road, B0E 1B0, Baddeck.
There is a small house at the border of the land (close to the access road) that will be used for cooking and food storage, and my meditation shelter is located about 15 minutes walking from the entrance house, in a remote and silent area in the middle of the forest, free from any disturbance (no humans, no network, no internet, no road access or driveway). There is a nice stream of pure water just down the tepee that is drinkable.
The shelter is a kind of tepee-like construction (see picture above) I have built myself, very simple, off grid, shingles on the roof, with a plate-form for sleeping and meditation, and a woodstove on which I can also do basic cooking.
For the meals, I will go once a day to the house at the border of the property to cook for lunch (I will eat the leftovers for diner). For breakfast, I will store food in my shelter so that I don’t have to go to the house.
I will wash my body either very simply in the river down the shelter (in summer or warm weather) or in the house (in winter time or cold weather).
I have local Canadian Dharma friends, living closeby, that will provide me with food and other products of the daily life so that I won’t have to go to town for shopping.
I consider getting in touch with my family  in France (particularly with my parents that are getting old) once every week. I will use whatsapp through the internet in the house for that purpose.
For my spiritual support or guidance, my main teacher also lives on the same land, in another shelter. So in case I need to clarify some experiences, I will be able to rely on him, because he went through the Four Visions of Tögal years ago after 10 years of solitary retreat in the woods.

|letterofmotivation=This long-term retreat represents a real culmination in my spiritual journey. It's been almost 30 years since I started on the Dharma path. After living in a Dharma center for over 15 years, completing the three-year retreat and other solitary retreats, I felt about 8 years ago the calling in my heart to let go of the things of this life and devote completely to the Dharma. In terms of spiritual practice, I had received during my retreat and later on all the trekchö and tögal instructions, and since then I have always felt drawn to these practices. I was fortunate in 2018 to meet a true guide of those, Robert Olds, who completed the 4 visions of the Tögal during a 10 years retreat in the wilderness. I was able to receive from him the full and precise Tögal instructions and get his confirmation that I was ready to begin. In 2020-2021, I got ill for over a year, which led me to go on a solitary retreat for 6 months. At the end of this retreat, I was truly aware that life is impermanent and the moment of death uncertain. I said to myself, if you don't do what's important to you now, when will you? Mid-2021, when I started to feel better, I actively began to prepare my life for this long term retreat : nourishing the intention in my heart, searching for a place to set up my hermitage, finding a way to at least partially meet my material needs for the retreat, prepare my relatives to the separation, close my professional activity, say goodbye to friends etc... The whole process accelerated in 2024 , as if the winds of life were encouraging me in this direction : the land was found and bought (by my brother) in a perfect area, my guide moved there in April, as well as some other Dharma friends, that could support me with my practice and the daily life during the retreat.
This retreat does involve a total commitment in my life : leaving my country, my family, my friends, my situation, to remain and practice in the solitude of the forest in a small and simple hermitage I'm building with my own hands. I know that Tsadra only grants scholarships for a maximum of 3 years, but I am feeding the intention to stay in retreat at least for seven years or more, depending on the development of the practice.
I do hope this present letter will be able to convey at least a little bit of the sincerity of my engagement. I would also like to express my deep gratitude to the Tsadra Foundation for helping the Dharma of the Tibetan tradition to grow and flourish in these dark times, not only through translations but also through dedicated practionners who try to walk in the footsteps of our great ancestors.
