First of all, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to write this, and to apply for the Advanced Contemplative Scholarship grant.

Since very young, I have been inspired by the example of saints. These people were out of ordinary, inspiring countless beings, healing them, showing them the spiritual way, and often practicing for a long time in seclusion. When I joined the path of Buddha Dharma, and heard about a traditional three year retreat, I immediately thought that in future I would like to do one.
Since very young, I have been inspired by the example of saints. These people were out of ordinary, inspiring countless beings, healing them, showing them the spiritual way, and often practicing for a long time in seclusion. When I joined the path of Buddha Dharma and heard about many great Masters practicing for long years in retreat, I thought that one day I will do a traditional three-year retreat.

In my, probably still limited vision, a three year retreat provides us with a place, time and structure to formally apply the teachings we have received. It is a very precious context where we can concentrate fully on what is the most important, the practice. It is also a way to fully work on one’s own mind since there are not many other distractions. It is also an opportunity to develop the six paramitas on many levels. It is a way to further strengthen our practice capacity and commitment. If this opportunity is used wisely, it is a way to benefit beings later in life.
In my view, a three-year retreat provides us with a place and structure to formally apply, for an extended duration, the teachings we have received. It is a very precious context where we can concentrate fully on what is the most important, the practice. It is also a great opportunity to become very familiar with one's mind and to fully work on it since there are not many other distractions. It is also a way to develop the six paramitas on so many levels. It is a precious chance to further strengthen our devotion, our practice capacity and commitment. If this opportunity is used precisely as it is taught, it is definitely a way to benefit many beings in this and future lives.

I don’t have any strong ambitions as a result of a three year retreat, however, I am ready to honestly do the best I can following the teachers’ instructions and dedicating all of myself to the practice, and serving my teachers in this way.
I don’t have any fixed ideas about the result of a three year-retreat for myself, however, I am ready to honestly do the best I can following the teachers’ instructions and dedicating all of myself to the practice.

For many years I did not have the conditions to do such a retreat, however now, this is close to becoming possible. I have a strong wish, I have the support from my main teacher Tsoknyi Rinpoche, I also have a perfect retreat guide (Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche) and a perfect place (Gomde Pyrenees) who are accepting me as retreatant, I have no dependents, and I have partly the funding to do the retreat.

Regarding my practice, I have done the full Ngondro that Tsoknyi Rinpoche and Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche advised me to do. I have also followed the meditation guidelines that they gave me. Mingyur Rinpoche has connected me to Tibetan Buddhism, and in his teaching style everything is so easy, so I have also completed Tergar’s curriculum up to the highest level (Path of Liberation 5). Since I also have a strong connection with Yantra Yoga, I have been learning and practicing it for the past 5 years too. I maintain a yearly connection with three of my teachers: Tsoknyi Rinpoche, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche and Mingyur Rinpoche. I have done many group retreats, as well as personal retreats, and have been to many teachings with my Lamas. Having a full time work, I was not able to go beyond a 1-month retreat in time, however, at the end of each retreat I have always been nostalgic and wished I could continue practicing in retreat. As a person, I am rather introverted, so spending time on my own is not a problem. However, I also love and appreciate people, and harmony between friends and vajra siblings.

All of this gives me confidence that I should succeed in a three-year retreat.

Right now I live and work in Russia, - my earnings and my personal funds are not sufficient to pay the retreat costs in full. Therefore I would hugely appreciate the financial help from Tsadra foundation to co-fund my retreat.
