I volunteered in the music field in my community. On Maui I created and directed a Girl Scout choir, and co-directed the Maui Community Chorus. Once I arrived at the temple, though, they kept me quite busy, so all the music volunteering stopped. My main contribution to the community was raising four children that did not take drugs, did not drink, did not cause problems for anyone, were respectful and considerate of others, and they did a lot of volunteer work for the special-needs community.  +

This past year I worked closely with Camphill Village, an organization in the city of Hudson dedicated to creating community with people of all abilities. Currently Camphill Hudson operates two life-sharing homes with five adults with developmental disabilities. The core values of this organization are spiritual in nature, founded on the recognition of the potential of each individual. Rudolf SteinerÃs Motto of the Social Ethic is a foundational thought for all of CamphillÃs activity: "The healing social life is found, when in the mirror of each human soul, the whole community finds its reflection; and when, in the community, the virtue of each one is living." I had a paid position as a one-on-one support provider with an individual with Down Syndrome, a highly competent and intelligent person who challenged my concepts and pointed out my mind to me on a daily basis. I volunteered many extra hours to community dinners, art workshops and theater rehearsals at CamphillÃs Solaris Center for the Social Arts.  +
I am involved with an intentional community in Asheville NC. We hold fundraising events for different causes, including local organizations that help women, immigrants and disadvantage communities. We are working on a project where we acquire food donations from local supermarkets before they are thrown out, we process the produce into edible food, which gets distributed to the local housing project communities, the rest of the food is processed into compost to be used at local community gardens.  +
I have been a volunteer producer for many events and organizations including community festivals and independent musicians and artists groups.  +
I have been fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to participate in multiple community service actions over the course of my life. While in high school I occasionally volunteered at a local soup kitchen, I went to Mexico for a month in my early twenties to volunteer at a local botanical garden offering tours in English to tourists. While in college I was part of a service sorority that participated in various community service work such as visiting nursing homes, and participating in the annual Walk for a Cure for Cancer. Additionally, I participated in service work in Thailand, Costa Rica, and Ecuador, and through the past couple of years in social work school I have interned as a case manager and therapist with recently incarcerated women, and I currently intern at the International Rescue Committee working with refugees and aslyees. Finally, while in graduate school I have participated in mentorship programs for classmates, and have volunteered with school organizations working to challenge racial inequality at NYU.  +
In the past I have volunteered in soup kitchens, nursing homes, with children/adolescents, and in a wildlife rehabilitation center. In the monastery we continuously run programs, and retreats throughout the year for our extended Sangha members, with many programs open to the public as well. Most recently, we hosted the North American Kagyu Monlam, which was well attended by both local community Sangha members, and people from around the world.  +
In 1996 I hosted my first teacher, Geshe Tsulga, in my home for six months. Kurukulla Center did not have the funds to have a home for the resident Lama. Although, back then, I was just getting to learn and practice Buddhism, I was very happy to host the resident Lama in my home to help the center. It was a beautiful experience for me to care for Geshela and to see first hand the life of a true Buddhist practitioner.  +

I work with a group called Community Greenways, which is a local non-profit group committed to citizen science projects and environmental education. I've been volunteering and working with them about a year. I led a weekly meditation group at Stanford University for two years. I volunteered for two years with a oak forest reforestation program in Palo Alto, and was involved in other environmental volunteering projects there (taking kids into nature, guiding nature walks, etc). In 2015 I started a fundraising campaign for the nuns of Gebchak Gonpa in Qinghai (which was the first nunnery in Tibet). I was able to raise over $2000 to support the nuns.  +
Since 2001 I have travelled to many Kagyu centers in the United States giving dharma instruction, Tibetan Buddhist art instruction and sand mandala instruction. I will be teaching dharma instruction and Tibetan art classes in New Mexico for one month beginning June 7, 2012.  +
