Between 1999 and 2002 I contributed small amounts of money amounting to a few hundred dollars and meals when the monks would come and build sand mandalas. I also gave extra money when I attended some teachings. From 2007 to 2010, I helped when I would visit for pujas or teachings and I bought eye glasses for some older monks. Since living at the Kumbum monestary in 2010, I have helped with whatever is needed. I set up for and clean up after teachings in the temple, kitchen and bathrooms. I take care of the trees on the grounds. I help tutor English to the monks and other Tibetans in their fall and spring semesters for an hour or two every night. I take them shopping and in some cases drive longer distances, such as to New York or Chicago for flights or documents. I keep the drive cleared of snow in our 108 acre complex. I give tours and help visitors understand the Dharma when asked. From the monks, however, I also receive mo-mos from time to time.  +

I offer my services to both my lama and Dharma community. I offered sewing and cleaning skills to the sangha from the moment I arrived in 2008 until I came here to retreat. Projects included mending, sewing shrine items, desk mats, shrine curtains, framing thangkas, and some upholstery. I was the main cleaner of everything. Lama Gyaltsen also put me in charge of cleaning all the thangkas. From 2009-2012 I kept Lama GyaltsenÃs house clean, did his laundry, and managed his yard. I painted LamaÃs entire house, laid flooring and refinished his kitchen cabinets over a 3-month period while he was in India. I built a cedar desk for LamaÃs throne right before I left. I was umdze or chopon on occasion. I gave two Ngondro retreats to individual practitioners. One wanted to renew his practice and another wanted to learn to do 200 prostrations per day. Both succeeded in their goal.  +
