I took the Bodhisattva Vow in 2011 with Lama Michael Conklin at KCC in Portland, Oregon.
I requested to take the lay precepts a few months ago and am waiting to hear from Lama Tsang Tsing in Eugene, Oregon. I have been told that 3-year retreat candidates will take the precepts prior to going into retreat. +
I have taken the vows of Refuge, Lay Precepts and Bodhisattva Vows. On Oct. 5, 2013, I received novice ordination from Thrangu Rinpoche. +
I took the bodhisattva vow with Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche in May 2011 +

After taking refuge in 2001, and taking a class in Shantideva's "The Way of the Boddhisattva", I had two opportunities to take the Bodhisattva vow in 2011 with Kalu Rinpoche in Ashland and in 2013 at the Mahamudra Seminar in Seabeck WA with Khenpo Lodro Donyo Rinpoche. +
5 Lay Precepts with Drupon Rinpoche Khenpo Lhabu and with Tulku Orgyen Phuntsok.

I have taken the lay precepts with both Chamtrul and Khentrul Rinpoche. I have also had Bodhisattva vows with each of them and with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. I do not hold monastic vows. +

Summer 2008, I received bodhisattva vows from Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche.
Approximately all of the year 2014 I observed celibate upasika vows (Tib. tshangs spyod dge bsnyen), which were given by Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche with a duration of one year.
April 2018, I received the general five upasika vows from Drubpon Tsering Rinpoche. +

In 1981 I received Sangye Genyen Ordination from Ven. Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche in Ka-Nying Shedrupling.
In 2010 I received Getsulma Ordination from Ven. Tai Situ Rinpoche.
Between 1981 and 2019 I received Bodhisattva vows from H.H. the Dalai Lama, H.H. the Karmapa and from other Rinpoches and Lamas. +
Getsul vows Kalu Rinpoche in Los Angeles 1988. I returned the vows to Bokar Rinpoche in India in 1996.
Mahayana Sojong with 17th Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje in Bodhgaya 2005(?). I regularly retake the vows, especially on full moon and new moon.

Refrain from taking life: develops a more caring attitude, cuts through aggression, helps to avoid later regrets about hurting what is sentient. Refrain from taking what is not given: helps to avoid paranoia about being caught, creates trust toward precept holder. Refrain from the misuse of the senses. Not having too much sensual pleasure. Sometimes this one is not to have any sexual relations- helps to see how passion traps us into believing the source of happiness is in another person. But in a context of a retreat environment, this precept helps to avoid unnecessary dramas and traumas that develop from having a relationship with another person. Refrain from wrong speech. Sometimes stated as refraining from lying - creates trust toward the precept holder, helps to be clear about one's own inner motivations based on hope and fear. Refrain from intoxicants that cloud the mind - self explanatory. +
In 2014, I ordained as a theravadan monk, and stayed as a monastic for two years.
I have received bodhisattva vows with Garchen Rinpoche sometime in 2020. I forget when. +
In 2000, I took the five lay precepts with H.H. Dalai Lama at Los Angeles Sports Arena.
In 2001, I took my bodhisattva vow with H.E. Garchen Rinpoche in Taichung, Taiwan.
Since then, I have participated in the bodhisattva vow ceremony as much as I can to refresh and strengthen my refuge vow. +
