After completing the training levels at Phoenix Shambhala center, I volunteered in various capacities: staffing the events, leading dharma recovery group, cleaning, cooking for the events, coordinator/master of ceremonies, umdze. All in all, I did this for about 2 or 3 years. During my stay at Gampo Abbey, as a temporary monastic for 9 months, I was one of the cooks and also fulfilled a variety of required roles. Following that, I mostly practiced on my own and helped out online due to Phoenix Center being physically closed because of COVID for about a year. Currently, I've been a work-study at Garchen Buddhist Institute for over a year, beginning in May of 2021. +
In 1998-1989 - volunteered for approximately 12 months at a residential treatment center where the model was Buddhist by design and designated the “Wind horse model”. I also later worked there as a Team Leader. The Wind horse model was structured by Trungpa Rinpoche (and Baker Roshi), and with help from a student of Trungpa Rinpoche Edward Podval, MD, Psychiatrist (I think those are the major players). The treatment center was called “Friendship House” and held an interest within the Buddhist Community, where members of the Naropa community also volunteered. It is/was also located in Boulder, Colorado. Presently, I am a Practicing Psychotherapist where I serve a portion of the community who have an interest in Buddhist practice/ meditation. +
Back in 2009, I volunteered for 7 months at a monastery in Nepal. Teaching English to the monks, and setting up a library there from funds raised.
In January of 2020, I volunteered during the winter teachings at Garchen Insitute, for about 10 days or so. I was primarily helping with the dishes.
I stayed at another dharma center called earth journey in 2020, and shopped for the older/at risk population during the first 7 months of covid. Was in the grocery stores for 8 hours usually when I went.
Obviously during my time as a monk, everything was offered freely, and throughout most of my adult life I have mostly lived in the "gift economy" meaning i have given and received freely. +
I started working as a volunteer and interpreter for my teacher the venerable Khenpo Phuntsok Tenzin Rinpoche in my hometown Dharma center (Drikung Kagyu Viña del Mar) in 2011.
After that, in 2015, I got the chance of temporarily volunteering doing various tasks at Otzer Ling Dharma center, while I was attending teachings and retreats with its spiritual director, the venerable Drubpon Konchog Otzer Rinpoche.
Later, in 2017, I dedicated myself to volunteering at my first center, now called Drikung Kagyu V Región. Since then, I have worked there in various ways, as an interpreter for our teacher Khenpo la, as a guide for practice sessions, as a director leading the sangha and its activities, and as a meditation and philosophy instructor leading courses on basic Buddhist teachings and practices, among others.
Finally, I have been volunteering last year in my teacher's main center in Santiago doing everyday tasks and supporting and interpreting for his teachings and retreats. +

As a resident of Katog Rit’hrod from 2010-21, I helped organize and prepare for all teachings and retreats. I also helped build and maintain the centers’ garden, greenhouse and grounds. I also led the painting of our new 3600 square ft temple, both the main painting and decorative Tibetan blocking & motifs. I led a tsatsa making project as part of the the filling the statues and stupas of the center. I was one of the main builders of the drubdra, which includes 4 cabins and a small temple, as well as of other retreat cabins on the land here. I helped build our sangha workshop and did electric, plumbing and general building and beautification work at Katog Rit’hrod. I also maintained Rinpoche’s private home. I served as one of the chopons for over 6 years and helped organize tsoks and other pujas. Most recently I helped on the final edit of Rinpoche's new book, The Power of Mind. +

In order to attend the Palyul Summer Retreats, I have always made myself available a month before, and a week after two retreats. I did cleaning, gardening, maintenance, shopping, housekeeping, temple upkeep, driving, etc., as I generally do whatever I am able. One year I was fortunate enough to assist in filling, construction, perfecting, and consecrating the Terton Mingyur Dorje stupa with Tulku SangNgag and HE Gyangkang Tulku and other Palyul lamas. This year I am working directly under the head of office for the Palyul Summer Retreat (and taking full charge for one week in their absence) while also receiving the fourth year of instruction (in Thogal). +
