Would be a good addition to any retreat.  +
Note: Left retreat after death of Lama Tarchin Rinpoche; was given funding for 16 months.  +
Aware she needs to set boundaries but looking forward to the frame and structure of the retreat to go into deeper practice. So committed to service had to be convinced she could even step back and go into retreat; but was strongly encouraged by LTR and others to do the retreat but also realized it had to be her own decision.  +
Excellent candidate for retreat  +
Had to leave retreat after 4 months due to a recurrence of Lyme disease.  +
Will definitely be a positive addition to retreat; and likely effective agent after retreat.  +
Hesitating between retreat at GI and Gampo Abbey, but most likely to stay at GI  +
Not particularly intellectual but with a strong personality and definite "feeling" for the power and importance of practice.  +
Excellent candidate  +

A good candidate, with a lot of retreat experience. Some Tibetan, but will be working to improve this. Motivation a little bit passive; after a very difficult life-experience year (loss of mother to death, loss of partner to best friend) was invited to enter retreat ...  +

First comments related his interest in shedra studies; he has studies several texts on madyamaka already and wants to continue; after another retreat would like to pursue more serious studies. Honestly claims his dysfunctional past; entered into practice through A.R.’s Back to Beginning therapy. Sees practice as a way of assuming and working with / transforming one’s own manure of which he claims to have a lot. When asked a personal question diverted it into a general comment: would like to encourage harmony in a group. Admits to being sensitive and easily hurt which leads to wanting to be reclusive. But also felt the first retreat changed him so greatly that he really wants to continue the process to eliminate whatever is not useful or not skillful from his personality and cultivate what is. Seems could be short tempered...  +
For many years an addict; starting with recreational drugs when a teenager and finishing with heroin. Still managed to study and work and keep up her artwork without slipping into crime to support her habit. One day saw a brochure for Samye Ling and kept it for years; then came to Samye Ling, met Akong Rinpoche and Lama Yeshe and was deeply touched... felt the “quiet” of meditation practice (space) and cured herself of her addiction. Now can see clearly the sources of her suffering and has deep compassion for others and is looking forward to the day she can do more than just “share” her experience, but can really help others. Likes both being alone and being with others. Might find keeping to a fixed schedule challenging.  +
Seems to have some quality of a person who’se done retreat but spoke almost all the interview about the issues of role... being “groomed” ; filling a functional role in the community... etc. When asked personal questions responded abstractly and conceptually rather than personally. Quality... good listener; easy with others; fault grasping or jealous mind (small issues...). Talked about importance of focusing on the 4 thoughts and getting back to basics.; loved Pagmo Inner practice; would like to focus on few practices rather than doing the full program but has received mixed messages from Druppon Rinpoche and Lama Yeshe R.  +
Inspired by applied aspect of Dharma - lojong, compassion, etc. Pagmo best practice in retreat; inspired and drawn by practice in retreat but seems to be destined for Dharma managerial duties in future... instrumental in managing the development of the Center for World Peace on Holy Island; then single-handedly went down and began work on what was to become the men’s retreat center drawing first one then another to help until the lama agreed to raise money for the building of the retreat center. Very determined and conscientious.  +
Korean-Canadian; with strong personality and presence. Very diligent and determined; able to apply himself; danger of being frustrated leading to resentment... a lot of life experience and willingness to bring this into his practice.  +
On practice referred to a Situ R. teaching on the futile prospect of trying to fill an infinite mind with finite relative matter... As with most here has a very down to earth and sane view of practice. A healthy view of the usefulness of monastic role in Dharma activity. Owns up to a sportsmans competitve spirit and the concomittant tendancy to being judgemental.  +
Travelled to India at 23 and did a course at Kopan; and also meditated in an Ashram; later wrote to Samye Ling and Rigpa but Samye Ling answered; came here and felt he’d come home. In Kopan discovered a place of quiet that felt very familiar. Seems a natural meditator; speaks of practice in terms of mind and awareness... relaxing so the projections can dissipate.... Considers his main challenge in retreat is the tendancy to try too hard to accomplish the meditation; but quality is a more and more refined ability to catch emerging self-cherishing. No apprehension but a real excitement about getting into retreat. Asked Karmapa if he would be more useful to sentient beings as lay or monk... Karmapa said monk! Live of dedication...  +
In retreat and very happy to be so. Profoundly grateful and appreciative of practice opportunity.  +
Very good embodiment of sane practitioner who loves retreat.  +
Should be an excellent candidate for retreat  +
