Admin:Pierre Lançon 2025 Application + (My hermitage is located in a wilderness ar … My hermitage is located in a wilderness area of the Cape Breton (Nova Scotia, Canada), on a private 100 acres wood land (own by my brother). The address is 733 Tarbotvale Road, B0E 1B0, Baddeck. There is a small house at the border of the land (close to the access road) that will be used for cooking and food storage, and my meditation shelter is located about 15 minutes walking from the entrance house, in a remote and silent area in the middle of the forest, free from any disturbance (no humans, no network, no internet, no road access or driveway). There is a nice stream of pure water just down the tepee that is drinkable. The shelter is a kind of tepee-like construction (see picture above) I have built myself, very simple, off grid, shingles on the roof, with a plate-form for sleeping and meditation, and a woodstove on which I can also do basic cooking.For the meals, I will go once a day to the house at the border of the property to cook for lunch (I will eat the leftovers for diner). For breakfast, I will store food in my shelter so that I don’t have to go to the house.I will wash my body either very simply in the river down the shelter (in summer or warm weather) or in the house (in winter time or cold weather).I have local Canadian Dharma friends, living closeby, that will provide me with food and other products of the daily life so that I won’t have to go to town for shopping. I consider getting in touch with my family in France (particularly with my parents that are getting old) once every week. I will use whatsapp through the internet in the house for that purpose.For my spiritual support or guidance, my main teacher also lives on the same land, in another shelter. So in case I need to clarify some experiences, I will be able to rely on him, because he went through the Four Visions of Tögal years ago after 10 years of solitary retreat in the woods.10 years of solitary retreat in the woods.)

I have owned the home and the 5.5 acres it sits on since 2010. The home is a 10 foot by 50 foot 1950’s era mobile home, located down a very long driveway and situated between a bluff and a small hill in what is known in Arkansas as a “hollow”, making it very private and quiet. There are no other homes in sight, though I have three neighbors, two of whom are sangha siblings. I have done several solitary retreats in the home, including a 100 day retreat in 2020. The supportive conditions are that home and land is paid for so there is no mortgage. It has running water and electricity from the county and is comfortable with basic needs met. It is heated with a combination of electric and wood, so though it has virtually no insulation, it is comfortable, but also just rough enough that it requires a bit of ruggedness, which I feel is a big retreat support. Because it is so close to Katog Rit’hrod, it will be easy for a paid shopper to bring food and other necessities as needed. It is also close enough to sangha neighbors that, though solitary, I could easily get aid in case of health or weather emergencies. We also have nurses and carpenters at Katog Rit’hrod who know me and my retreat boundaries and are more than willing to help if needed. I am able to grow some vegetables in some small raised garden beds there, it is familiar, basic and simple to maintain. The land is also close enough that receiving continued teachings and support and visits from my teacher and/or his translator will be quite easy, only a ten minute walk from their private cabins.I believe it is a perfect home and location for retreat. I bought the land and home from another sangha member over 10 years ago, living there full time from 2011 to 2021. Rinpoche himself has always said I would do three year retreat there.
